And she is correct. It wasn't as bad as could be expected, though by the time we got to the stores (1230pm) the insane people had more or less moved on or even quit for the day. With many retailers around here being open on Thanksgiving and even at midnight to begin the insanity, I think it just spreads the crazy out, so it isn't as obvious.

I too hate people. Like Nance not a person, but groups of people, and poor Marc is on the path to becoming more intolerant than his mother.

As it stands I am thankful that I know the world is not ending in 2012. Hell it better not I would like to use this degree I am working so hard to get, and I would not want to pay the astronomical grad school application fees either. I am thankful that I do not understand or care about whatever vampire, werewolf, hot stud the kids are currently obsessed with. And where did this obsessive behavior come from? I never got as excited about a movie, cd, or concert as these kids do over a commercial.

Kunstler’s admonitions in regards to one-child policies, protocol for reproduction permissions have already been put in place in other cultures. The killing of female babies has probably been around for centuries, along with selling children into slavery and prostitution. Although the US has its share of poverty, I’m not aware it has not been alarming enough to the rest of the population for any action to be taken as a whole, probably due in part to our withering but relatively large middle-class. Whereas, these other countries and cultures have implemented measures we would find extreme in part, to reduce starvation, suffering, and proliferation of diseases, etc. by implementing some type of birth control. And some of the nations may not be concerned with fossil fuels which maybe the case for some African countries, as an example.

Kunstler’s point of increased supply of idiots, esp. in the US, is directed to its relationship with its resources. However, those idiots in the truly over-populated countries may simply be ignorant and suffering for it. Ignorance can be deterred with a transfer of knowledge; idiots usually don’t have that option.

I'm so glad Nashville's Black Friday was mostly tolerable. Gavin spent the night in front of Fry's Electronics with a buddy who wanted a specific computer that was "on, like, huge sale." The rest of us hunkered down and ate leftover turkey. We were worried about our foolishly going to the commissary the day before thanksgiving to stock up on sweet potatoes and cream of mushroom soup and whatnot, but we also had the "this isn't as bad as I thought it would be" experience.

This season, I plan to try to remember to be thankful for any trouble that comes my way, and to keep my cursing to inaudible levels. :)
