Hey Nance- I don't know what took me so long to click on this page, but I'm glad I did today.

Jeffrey's a talent and I'm going to have to show his work to my son--who's been an artist since he could hold a crayon, but wondering, now, as a freshman, if it's the sort of work he can turn into a career (I know, seems to young for that concern!). I think my Max will find Jeffrey's work and story inspiring.

I can do no better than to echo you. I, too, experience a sense of optimism when I meet responsible grown-ups who also happen to be young. I sometimes wonder if parenting isn't the last refuge for what's best in human nature.

Vervezest-2009:Ha-ha-ha! That's a good question! When I first started thinking about the idea of ACTUALLY working for myself in the fall of 2005, my friends and I tossed around several possibilities... but none of them seemed to actually fit what I thought I was about, and what I really wanted to do with my work. Then the name came to me from seemingly nowhere. Red Herring. Looking up the definition (Any diversion intended to distract attention from the main issue) further convinced me that it was the correct direction to go. What had illustration been to me my whole life, but a distraction from what was going on around me. Building worlds, recording events, pulling all those little bubbles of marsh gas from the depths of my brain. I like the idea that my work could possibly draw attention from some of the scary or mundane aspects of our world, and refocus that attention on the more fantastic aspects of it.
