Very spot on and very you! I have now taken to carrying a small notebook at all times to write down amazing sentences that I create to explain a feeling or something I have seen. Or a funny comment that someone makes like yesterday at work when a lady I work commented "you know your life is easy when you don't even have to worry about your coochie". I mean seriously! Those sweet little nuggets of humor are usually too funny (at least to me) to risk forgetting. Not to mention how would I share them if I forgot the exact wording and context? At this point I am convinced that I should write the next coming of age best seller. Hell, my life has been pretty crazy the past few years and I am rather unconventional...it might just work. That is if I could write my life with the humor, humility and willingness to be known that you talked about. Who knows? Only time will tell. Maybe you should write a book...you sure have enough wonderful things to share and your life would (in my opinion) be not only a great memoir, but would make a killer movie! Kisses!

You provide insightful arguments to reflect upon. Can someone provide a definition for “lonelier” in the statement: “The lonely networkers wind up lonelier”? Lonelier than whom or what: 5 years ago, 10 years ago, pre-internet, than myself, the cheerleading team, the old man who has lost his wife?

Certainly for many, they use Facebook, Twitter and blog to feel less lonely. There was a time in the not too far past when people noted how far their relatives now lived or that we don’t know our neighbors, or a sense of community was lacking.

Good point you made about lumping bloggers with Facebookers and Twitter’ers. Bloggers get to express themselves any way they want; they and their readers can remain unknown to each other, unlike Facebook. These formats allow one to choose when and if they want to respond, unlike a phone call in which you may be engaged for a bit and saying good bye can be awkward - similar to a face to face conversation. And face to face may be just that – faces that try to control what they really want to say or reveal.

After all, these non-face-to-face interactions are pretty safe. Vollmer’s statement describes one person, one-sided process – the playmate never enters the sand-box but responds from one in another location.

Your closing paragraph about affinity reminds me of the high artists’ experience – completely zoned in on those moments of creation - the world has faded for awhile – a truly unique human experience.

Great Post, Merry Christmas to you, the Bloggaddicted :) I am guilty as well. I mean why on vacation would I not watch tv or read? I get bored that's why. Blogging and reading other people's blogs? Never. Unplugging all together is not an option unless I want skin cancer from sitting outside too much LOL. I would replace blogging with tanning, blogging is "safer" no doubt. And in all seriousness, I read 25 to 50 blogs a day. And in the past 6 months, these women have become my friends. Not like they'd be there for me at my bedside if I were ill, but in a general sense, they are there for me. There is competition and jealousy in some senses, anytime you put a roomful of women together, that will happen. But in general, a nice group of ladies that are my friends and I wish we lived closer, I wish it was all "IRL" (in real life) but it's not. Oh well. Something's better than nothing I say.
